Third Quarter Newsletter
This will easily be the longest (monstrously long, now that I’ve written it!) newsletter I’ll probably ever write, but I assure you all the information enclosed is important to the Association and, I’m hoping it will be of some interest to you, so please read it to the end. Be forewarned however, Ernest Hemingway I’m not!
First and foremost, after 2 decades of service to BCSA, Kathy DeNutte is stepping down from the myriad of duties she performs for the Association. If you know Kathy, she is involved in similar capacities for several other organizations and with the growth in the club in recent years, it has become too much for any one person to do. Over the decades, she has fulfilled every officer position, Board of Directors, as well as every committee we’ve had!
I believe I speak for the BOD and the entire membership when I say we are thankful for everything she accomplished during her tenure. She’s not going anywhere though and is staying with the club to show the ropes to her many replacements. Thanks, Kathy!
Speaking of replacements, with the increased activity, it is the intention of the BOD to separate out Kathy’s duties to make it easier and avoid overburdening any one individual. We are looking to the membership to step up and fill these important roles in the organization. With single and family memberships approaching 350 or more, surely we can find interested parties to fill these positions.
Kathy was Secretary, membership manager, social media manager, hall rental manager, turkey and meat raffles and kitchen committee. Adam Mini has been learning the social media aspect and will be taking over the first week of September. We believe we may have membership covered, but the remainder are open with no prospects in sight.
Secretary, hall rental and the two raffles are not too demanding from a time commitment perspective, but are a commitment nonetheless. If you interested, or want more information, please contact me at [email protected], or Vice-President Wes Williams at [email protected].
Committees that could use some help: kitchen, building, grounds and archery. While the commitment is driven by each committee, this is where the work gets done.
Ensuring the building is ready for rentals, the kitchen is clean and orderly, grounds are maintained and the archery range taken care of as necessary. Please give it some consideration.
On to other news. Earlier this year, Charity Willis from A Girl and a Gun of Southern NH hosted 15 students at the range for a very successful women’s firearms class and are ready to do so again. Two classes are scheduled from 9 AM to 1 PM on Sunday September 29th and Sunday October 6th. Classes are limited to 6 students for the moment and members will be given preference. For more info and to register, please contact Charity at [email protected]. Cost is very reasonable.
In another leap forward for the Association, we are one step away from instituting a new membership management software program called Association Sphere. Wes, Kathy DeNutte and Treasurer Kathy Grenier have been working on the transfer of information and new formatting for months. This will be beneficial right from the start, but future potential for this software will allow us to move away from a calendar year membership, automatic 90 notification of renewal and (gasp!), print your own range card. That’s our goal, anyway.
To help with this process, and for accuracies sake, we are asking you to NOT RENEW for 2025 (either paper application or online) until mid October, so that we are completely up and running. We will basically be starting from scratch, so it is IMPERATIVE that all your information is complete, accurate and legible (if on paper). If you are a range member, please include your most recent assigned range number. Thank you for your cooperation in this big change.
2024 Gun Raffle is underway! 5 guns this year, 3 bolt guns with factory mounted scopes in different calibers, a camo 12 gauge pump turkey shotgun and a Glock 47. All come with some ammo and a $50 gift card. Winner gets their pick of any 2, second ticket pick of remaining 3, third gets pick of 2 and fourth the last gun. The Daily Sun will be running a large color ad twice a week start the beginning of September. Tickets are also being sold at Fieldmaster Firearms, The Barn Store in Salisbury, Goodhue Firearms in Moultonboro and Abe’s Awesome Armaments in New Hampton. Please patronize these shops that are helping us out. If you would like more than a few to sell or buy, see Will Holtzheiser at Federated Fischer Auto Parts in Lakeport. Drawing is Columbus Day, October 14th.
Last year we were late in getting out the turkey raffle tickets and sales were hurt because of the delay. One good thing to come out of it though was sending renewal forms in the envelope along with the tickets. Best return on renewals Kathy reported in some time. To correct last year’s delay, the BOD will be having an envelope stuffing party at the beginning of October, with the envelopes in the mail by the 5th of the month. Speaking of the turkey raffle, BOD members donate all the 20+ turkeys we give away every year, so all monies taken in go into the bank, minus the cost of the printing, so please make an effort to sell tickets.
BCSA branded clothing was mentioned previously, but only 2 people expressed an interest in response, but there have been numerous verbal requests at past events. So we recently ordered multiple sizes in 1/4 zip pullovers in blue or green, as well as vests. These will have the new emblem embroidered on them. Accurate cost per piece will be available once a stitch count is made and are 3 to 4 weeks out. T-shirts will be available later, and if sales are good, embroidered hats also.
We recently hosted a delicious pig and chicken roast, cooked by Brian and Kathy DeNutte, with an assist from VP Wes Williams and GF Vicki King, BOD members Mark Jensen, Ralph Scribner, Phil Tanner, Will Holtzheiser, Mike and Mrs. Fecteau and Treasurer Kathy Grenier. Unfortunately, attendance was not what we hoped for and fell a little short as a fundraiser. We will be discussing the future of this event for next year.
Something we haven’t done in years, but would like to try again, is a Pot Luck Harvest supper. This is not a fundraiser, but a social event for members. We have many new members in every age range and it’s time we all meet. A “save the date” will be sent out to give everyone time to plan. Could use a couple of new volunteers to put this on, not just the BOD (hint, hint).
Firearms class sponsored by BCSA. This is not the class mentioned earlier. I have a list of interested students and will be reaching out to them in the next few days. There will be weekday, as well as weekend classes. $100 per person and will include everything needed, gun, holster, hearing protection, ammo, etc..
New members Josh and Nicole Martin have donated 2 new IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit) for Bay 1 and the kiosk between Bays 2/3. These have tourniquets and blood clotting agents. Now all we need is an instructor to teach a class in their use. Thanks to Josh and Nicole for being so involved within a week of joining!
Carolyn Larocque is thinking of sponsoring a novice line dancing class at the clubhouse if there is enough interest. Monday or Tuesday evenings for a very reasonable fee. For more info please contact Carolyn at [email protected].
I’m not looking to inundate your email all the time, so we’ll reserve that for important information that we need to get out to everyone. Instead, I intend to make some type of informational post on Facebook and the website near the beginning and middle of each month and hope that you will look at them for whatever they may offer.
Thanks for sticking with this to the end. I wasn’t lying when I forewarned you!
